MATH FORWARD VA
GREATER TOGETHER
Purpose and Goals
Math Forward VA is creating Unit Instructional Guides to support school systems in the Commonwealth of Virginia implement the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning.
Our goal is to provide resources and materials that schools and school divisions can use to develop their division curriculum guides and pacing documents.
At minimum, we aim to produce the following for Kindergarten through Math 8, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2:
Scope and Sequence
Unit guides
Teaching considerations for each unit
Concept progressions for each unit
Intentionally selected and created learning experiences for each unit
In creating the scope and sequence, we prioritized making connections throughout the curriculum. This can be seen through starting each grade level/course with a unit on the data cycle that is revisited throughout the year when appropriate.
This is not intended to be a full curriculum or a replacement for a basal resource, but rather a starting point for school divisions in creating or selecting their curriculum.
The power of having a statewide contingent working and implementing a common scope and sequence allows for an immense amount of collaboration that can help every school division's materials be as great as they can be.
Anticipated Timeline
Our anticipated timeline for publishing is:
February 12, 2024: Scope and Sequence guides available for all grade levels/courses
February 28, 2024: Unit guides available for the first quarter of all grade levels/courses
March 31, 2024: All unit guides available for all grade levels/courses without learning experiences
April 30, 2024: Learning experiences for the second quarter of all grade levels/courses
June 30, 2024: Learning experiences for the third quarter of all grade levels/courses
